iMAP  intra-Medullary Antibiotics Perfusion

iMAP pin  intra-Medullary Agent Perfusion pin

iMAP is intra-Medullary Antibiotics Perfusion, which continuously injects antibiotics into the bone and aspirates them from the drain under negative pressure to circulate the antibiotics ='perfusion'.

Previously, 'bone marrow infusion' was used as a term of iMAP. Before the spread of syringe pumps, this treatment was thought to wash out by  injecting a large amount of fluid into the dead space created after scratching the lesion.

On the other hand, 'iMAP' is injected with a syringe pump, so it can be reliably microinjected even if the intra-medullary resistance is high. Antibiotics are thought to diffuse into tissues where trabecular bone structure remains. iMAP is used for the purpose of drug delivery, which penetrates the tissue with antibiotics rather than washing it away with antibiotics as in conventional treatments.

Tohoku University-style bone marrow aspiration needle

A Tohoku University-style bone marrow aspiration needle (Senko Medical Machine: Tokyo) was used to inject antibacterial drugs into the bone marrow. Due to its simple structure consisting of an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder, it sometimes loosened during the period of indwelling and the drug solution leaked from the injection site, or it bent against the bed rail, or loosened and fell out. Since only the cortex on one side is fixed to the bone, there is a limit to the strength of fixation. For this reason, it is difficult for the patient to move from the bed during the treatment period, and the patient is forced to excrete on the bed. Young people had greater mental distress, and older people had a marked decline in ADL.

In order to solve these problems iMAP pin was developed. The iMAP pin has a threaded tip that can be fixed to the contralateral cortex. In addition, the liquid injected from the adapter that can be connected to the extension tube passes through the center of the hollow pin and flows out from the side in front of the screw.

The iMAP pin can be firmly fixed, so it is possible to perform treatment while sitting or in a wheelchair.

We currently have two types available: 3mm diameter 90mm length and 5mm diameter 110mm length, but we plan to increase the lineup in the future.

Currently, the iMAP pin is provieded Cubex Medical:Tokyo and only available in Japan now.
